Slime Season 3 begins with 'With Them,' the song previously known to masses as the newest banger blasting through Kanye West's Life Of Pablo listening party and Yeezy Season 3 reveal. Slime Season 3, while still with its flaws, is the perfect introduction to those wondering just where the hell popular Hip-Hop has come, gone, and will soon go in the snowballing South. And yet, it wasn't until Jamie xx strikingly put his skittish boasting over a 70's Soul sample on 'Good Times' that those not in the know finally started to pay attention. Taking strained vocals from Lil Wayne, forward thinking style and cultural innovation from Andre 3000, and birthing a litany of trend followers before he's reached 25, Young Thug is surely set on a path to Hip-Hop superstardom. A large percentage of these weary seekers, myself included, knew of Thugger's existence in Atlanta's burgeoning music scene as the peculiarly devious Trap rapper who stormed through the past couple years with a work ethic like none other. It's this brevity though that'll allow anyone curious enough about Hip-Hop's latest mystery man to seek out answers to the numerous questions they most certainly have. Eight songs that fail to eclipse a grand total of 30 minutes, Young Thug's latest release pales in comparison to Slime Season 1 and 2. SS3 is entertaining with some clever bars over dominant, quality production. As a grand finale to his celebratory trilogy, Slime Season 3 is rather quaint. In fact, it appears that this may be the end to Young Thug’s career as a mixtape artist as his debut album appears to be imminent. SS3 is a fitting end to the Slime Season trilogy. Thug affiliates Yak Gotti, Lil Duke, and PeeWee Roscoe appear on “Slime shit” while Chicago native Lil Durk appears on “Drippin’”. Never said these were very lyrical or introspective bars, just entertaining. On “With Them” Thug raps, “I wanna fuck her but she play more games than the NBA”. It even showcases some of Thug’s more entertaining bars. While still not entirely intelligible, it seems as if Thug thought about trying to make his words actually decipherable on SS3 which is a nice touch. At times Thug takes a deliberate, staccato approach to his delivery while elsewhere he draws out his words more. A listen to “Drippin’” makes this pretty clear as Thug alters delivery within the track itself. Thug does switch up his delivery styles on SS3 at times and its always interesting to see how talented he actually is when it comes to his delivery. It’s hard to describe it in words but a lot of the tracks on SS3 have a certain bounce to them: “With Them”, “Drippin’”, and “Digits”. The production on every track is driven and dominated by the drum line with simple melodies often coupled to these. The beats here are lushly produced with deep, resonating drum lines. Other producers include TM808, Mike Will, Resource, BWheezy, Ricky Racks, Isaac Flame, and MariiBeatz. Production on SS3 is dominated by London On Da Track, who contributes to 4 of 8 tracks. Thug Doesn’t miss a step, bringing everyone what they’ve grown to expect and appreciate the unique, often incoherent rapper for. After having had a funeral procession for SS3 after Lyor Cohen announced the project’s burial, the trilogy’s final chapter blesses fans.
